Upon looking for other DS websites, why do so many DS websites not have a DS to view? They consits of written text with no visual content. Is this common for a DS website? Did anyone else come across any websites of this nature?
That is an excellent observation. Perhaps their point is to teach what it is, instead of give examples. Perhaps their reasoning is that if they give examples it will limit the scope of what can be done with Digital Storytelling. And there is always the idea that it is easier to tell others what to do than show them what to do via examples.
However, sites should give more examples so that we get a clear view of what others have done so we can blend it and come up with other uses for the digital story.
When I was working on our assignment, there were some websites that I would have liked to see an example because of the topic and how the creation of the DS.
That's long been a frustration of mine too. It always seemed to me that the multimedia part was the most important component of sites that presented information about DS and that written descriptions do not have the same impact as the digital story itself.
But as I've come to believe from creating and maintaining a website about about digital storytelling myself, perhaps the reason is that it's just technically much more challenging to deliver multimedia files over the web than text. So, maybe as technologies like YouTube get easier to use, we will see more video examples and fewer sites without them.
