Dr. Robin, after reviewing the links you posted on the discussion for this week, I am so sorry that I had to miss this class. My cousin got married, and was in a small part of the wedding ceremony. It appears from the links you posted that this was another informative class. I clicked on the free graphics software programs, and found the Homestead page. This was great because the page starts off with a great explanation of how to use the program, and then it has a free 30 day trial offer. What I really liked was that the program seems to have so many options and selections to choose from if someone is interested in creating their own website-this is so cool. But the most important part for me is it seems very user-friendly!
Dr. Robin, even though I am graduating soon, I have a feeling you may still get an occassional question or recommendation for my technology questions. I truly admire your knowledge with technolgy, and have greatly appreciated your patience with me these last two years. I do want you to know that I have enjoyed the classes, and do feel more comfortable with presenting a topic/course to my students or colleagues. Thank you :)

Personal Blog for Week 11
This assignment had us look into other information resources on the subject of digital storytelling, or hardware that can is or can be used in creating a DS. As for the hardware, I thought Tatiana's submission was to the point-exactly what I want. It is very obvious that Leon is quite familiar and knowledgable about tools/eqiupment, or applications in creating a good DS. I don't think I'll ever be at the point in my technology skills where I will be the one that someone is asking my opinion of what type of equipment to use. This is why I am glad there are people like you (Dr. Robin) and Leon-to give individuals like me suggestions on what to buy.
The information sources were a little overwhelming-so many. However, some were easy to access and others were not. Again, at this time in my like, researching for the fun of it is not something I have time for.

Week 10 Reflection
For this week, our assignment was to research software applications that would be useful for creating a DS. I was amazed at how much is out there, and which ones would be suitable for the level of technology that I most comfortable with. Tatiana mentioned Audacity. I do like this application because it is one that is easy to understand and apply in a project. The tutorial that is has is also very user-friendly.
I was quite impressed with Anita finding so many software applications-I wish I had as much time as she has to use the Internet :) I did like Soundzabound. The tutorial was very easy to understand. I liked the way it was tailored for educators, since our degree is in education.
At some point in the near future, I hope to have some free time to go over the suggestions that were given in this assignment to review them a little more closely and find some other applications that will be suitable for my needs.

Personal Reflection
Since our F2F last month, Tatiana and I have been working on how we will contribute to website. The final project/assignment is a little exciting because everyone's work will also be a part of this course's website.
The portion that I am working on is the Medical/Dental Education link of the DS Website.
I am glad that we are able to work on this project as a team because we can share ideas, tap into one another's strong points, and bounce ideas off each other. As for working with Tatiana on the dental portion, we are still in the planning stage but have several ideas of the direction that we will take with our section.

Reflection for Week 5
It is hard to believe that we ending our 5th week of this course-how time flies!!
Up to this time, I had no idea how Digital Storygtelling is making an impact on education. When we were first introduced to this aspect of technology a few years ago, I thought it was merely geared for an informative purpose. However, after a few years, I am now glad that Dr. Robin introduced this to us in our "Integrating Technology into the Curriculum" course.
After our F2F yesterday, I now feel more comfortable with the concept of DS and look forward to getting started with our final project. Also, the review of Photostory was also very helpful. Luckily, the night before I had reviewed the link Leon had submitted on our discussion board of the YouTube "Photostory" which helped prepare me for our class. The discussion of what our roles would play in the final project now gives me a better sense of what I need to work on, and review to help make our website "star" quality. (The Oscars Red Carpet is on, as I am typing away).

Review
The article I read was quite interesting to me because it showed how a dental school in South Carolina is using digital storytelling in their dental education. The article is posted on their online newletter:

"CDM iMovie competition spices up creativity"
by Cindy Abole

What I found intriguing about this article is how their Dental Informatics Professor's idea prompted them to not only use technology but their creativity. This project enabled them to see how their future profession of dentisry could be referred to as a visual art.
I remember when I first started this graduate program I thought a lot of the technology courses would not be applicable to me in the future; however, because there were part of the curriculum I had to do it. This article is a excellent example of illustrating to me how technology is making its way into dental education.

Reflection
My reflection on the first two weeks of this course is "wow"- there is so much in technology for educational purposes. When I first was introduced to DS almost two years ago, I thought this is something that I will look into for either professional or personal uses. However, due to time constraints of work, graduate school, and other personal obligations, I have not been able to go back to DS. I am looking forward to working with DS again, and learning more of how it can be beneficial in my career. I will say I am feeling a little intimidated of some of the students in the course because of their advanced knowledge of technology. As stated before, as a clinician, I do not deal much with technology but I do realize this is a big part of the future of education. I look forward to seeing what this course will have to offer and becoming reacquainted with DS.
Comment: I had no idea how many websites there are on DS. I would have liked to see a little more in dentistry but I realize it will come. Especially, for the profession of dental hygiene.
On a side note, I am not sure what it is that we are going to expected to do for our project(s), so Dr. Robin could you either send me an email if I am the only one not quite grasping the future content of this course. As of now, my understanding is we will work on the website, but my question is are we going to be creating a DS?
